The Syracuse promenade

In the recent year Syracuse has transformed a large segment of University Place between

South Crouse Avenue and College Place into the University Place Promenade. When being

constructed many faculty members and dozens more students and alumni had signed

petitions and letters calling for the university to stop the construction of the promenade.

They raised concerns about a “lack of discussion and transparency in the decision-making

process” as well as the cost of the project and traffic congestion. It was said that the

project cost no more than 6 million dollars. Although many had a problem with the

promenade, I personally believe it was a good investment that adds to the quality and

beauty of our campus. It allows students to interact with the campus in a way they weren’t

allowed to before. It is both astatically pleasing and functional. Ultimately it was a great

addition to Syracuse university.
